Feeding/Swallowing Assessment

We help children with pediatric feeding disorders by addressing the unique challenges that arise from medical conditions affecting eating and swallowing, such as prematurity, neurological disorders, genetic conditions, gastrointestinal issues, or oral-motor delays.

Key components of our evaluation include:

  • Collaborating with caregivers to gather a detailed medical history and feeding routines

  • Oral-motor and swallowing assessment

  • Sensory and behavioral observations

A comprehensive feeding and swallowing assessment is essential for the early identification of feeding difficulties. It allows for proactive intervention to support the child’s medical, developmental, sensory, and nutritional needs.

At Bloom, we use a multidisciplinary approach that may involve collaboration with other therapists, nutritionists or dietitians, physicians, dentists or orthodontists, and other medical specialists.

Feeding/Swallowing Therapy

We help children with selective eating, food aversions, failure to thrive, oral aversions, or feeding difficulties related to Eosinophilic Esophagitis.

Our child-directed, family-centered strategies teach children new skills to eat comfortably while making mealtimes smoother. Our approach addresses the physical, medical, nutritional, developmental, environmental, oral-motor, postural, and sensory factors that impact eating.

Sessions may include systematic desensitization, food exploration and play, tasting new foods, and working directly with caregivers to teach strategies that support their child and promote positive mealtime experiences. Treatment plans often involve a multidisciplinary team to address the medical, nutritional, and behavioral aspects of feeding.

Tongue-Tie and/or Lip-Tie Support (Adults & Children)

We offer specialized therapy for individuals with oral ties, including our Readiness for Release protocol. This program builds confidence and competence with oral exercises, provides patient and family education, and reduces the risk of restrictions following the procedure.

After the release, we provide ongoing support to maintain mobility, increase strength and stability, retrain proper swallowing and oral patterns, and establish correct tongue resting posture.

Addressing oral ties is essential for healthy oral development, nasal breathing, and quality sleep. Untreated oral ties can contribute to selective eating, prolonged pacifier use, thumb sucking, tooth decay, poor sleep, teeth grinding, neck tension, chronic nasal congestion, frequent ear infections, and impaired postural stability.

We use an interdisciplinary approach, collaborating with release providers, lactation consultants, and bodywork specialists to ensure optimal outcomes and healing.

Orofacial Myofunctional Evaluation

At Bloom, we conduct a comprehensive assessment that includes gathering a detailed medical and sleep history, evaluating the patient’s airway and oral structures, assessing oral function, and identifying orofacial myofunctional disorders.

The evaluation also includes a detailed review of breathing patterns, oral habits, oral/facial and postural measurements, speech patterns, and eating, drinking, and swallowing behaviors.

Following the assessment, our therapists provide an individualized plan of care along with a specialized toolkit to support therapy throughout the treatment process.

A thorough evaluation is essential for identifying the root cause of symptoms and designing a personalized treatment plan. At Bloom, we collaborate with a multidisciplinary team - including ENTs, dentists, orthodontists, fascia specialists, and physical therapists - to address functional challenges and help patients achieve their goals.

In-Office/School/Daycare $200

In-Home $300

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

We provide therapy for children and adults experiencing mouth breathing, speech difficulties, chewing and swallowing dysfunction, dental issues, tongue thrusting, thumb sucking or other oral habits, jaw discomfort or pain, sleep difficulties, or sleep-disordered breathing.

At Bloom, we focus on retraining the muscles of the face, mouth, and throat to function optimally. Our goal is to correct orofacial myofunctional disorders and improve suboptimal muscle movement patterns that affect posture, breathing, eating and drinking, sleeping, and speech.

Our therapists create individualized exercise programs to strengthen oral musculature, improve coordination, and enhance awareness of oral patterns. Exercises are guided by our trained therapists and supported with our specialized myofunctional therapy kits.

Bloom’s myofunctional therapy program promotes long-term improvements in posture and breathing, sleep quality, TMJ symptoms, speech, swallowing, and overall orofacial function.

The evaluation includes a detailed report and personalized plan so families know exactly what areas to focus on to support their child’s growth.
